Kevin Conway Honored as 2014 Advocate for Diversity

Congratulations

Kevin J Conway

Cooney & Conway’s own Kevin Conway was one of six Chicago area legal professionals recognized as a 2014 Advocate for Diversity. The honor was awarded to him by The Diversity Scholarship Foundation, an organization whose mission is to raise awareness of the importance of diversity while fostering opportunities for all.

Mr. Conway, who along with his fellow partners at Cooney & Conway implemented a Chair in Advocacy at Loyola University Chicago School of Law in 2008, is an avid supporter of diversity. He has served as president of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, and in his practice of law, he stands up for individuals’ rights on a daily basis. As a trial lawyer, he represents clients in mesothelioma, mass torts, wrongful death, and catastrophic injury cases.

The Advocate for Diversity honor was presented to Mr. Conway during the 12th annual Unity Award Dinner fundraiser, held in early December in Chicago. The event featured about 500 attendees. Chief Cook County Circuit Judge Timothy C. Evans symbolically swore in 20 bar association presidents as part of the ceremony. This tradition dates back to 2002, when a group of bar association presidents gathered and committed themselves to furthering diversity in the Chicago legal sector.

Formally launched in early 2008, The Diversity Scholarship Foundation is a visible continuance of this commitment. The Foundation provides financial and academic support to underrepresented groups in the legal community, adhering to the ideal that diversity among law school students will benefit and enhance the larger legal community. In addition to providing scholarships, grants, and loans to law school students, the Foundation provides assistance to law firms and supports efforts to hire diverse professionals.

Cooney & Conway is proud of Mr. Conway’s dedication to furthering diversity.
