Asbestos Exposure a Danger for 1 in 4 UK Construction Workers

Nearly a quarter of the construction workers in the United Kingdom believe they could have been exposed to asbestos while on the job, according to a survey released by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), Britain’s organization for health and safety in the workplace.

The IOSH said that 5,000 deaths a year can be attributed to workplace exposure to asbestos, claiming the UK has the highest likelihood of workers dying from mesothelioma, the deadly cancer caused by asbestos fiber exposure.

“In the decades to come, it is likely that these people and their families will still be suffering unless we all do something about it,” said IOSH President Craig Foyle.
