Asbestos Removal Delays Aurora Hotel Demolitions

The planned demolition of two hotels in suburban Aurora have been delayed while city officials seek to re-bid the contract to remove asbestos from the building before tearing them down.

Aldermen agreed with a recommendation to rebid the work at the Motel 6 and the Fox Valley Inn on Farnsworth Ave. in Aurora, for after the summer when asbestos-removal jobs at schools are completed. It is hoped the work will cost less during the contractors’ slower time in the fall.

Asbestos was found in the ceilings, window caulk, tile, tile mastic, and roof flashing at the Fox Valley Inn, and in the ceiling at the Motel 6.
