LISTEN: Attorneys Discuss CPD ‘Code of Silence’ Case on WGN Radio

Kevin Conway on radio

Cooney & Conway attorney Kevin Conway appeared on WGN Radio on Sunday to discuss a $20 million settlement in a trial against the Chicago Police Department and a former detective. The case, based on the CPD’s “Code of Silence,” was settled on December 8, 2017, with the payout going to the families of two men killed by a drunk, off-duty police detective.

On Wednesday, February 28, 2018, the Chicago City Council formally approved to pay $10 million each to the families of Fausto Manzera and Andrew Cazares, who were killed when former CPD Detective Joseph Frugoli drove drunk and struck their stalled vehicle in April of 2009.

Mr. Conway, who represented the family of Mr. Manzera, appeared on The Karen Conti Show with attorneys Tim Cavanaugh and Michael Sorich from Cavanagh Law Group, who represented the family of Mr. Cazares. The group discussed the details of the case, and the dangerous ramifications a “code of silence” can have on a police department, and the community it is dedicated to serve and protect.
