Partner John D. Cooney has been appointed by several United States Trustees to protect the rights of injured American workers and their families in the reorganization proceedings of Owens Corning, USG, Halliburton, Armstrong World Industries, Honeywell, General Motors, and other corporations. Recoveries resulting from Mr. Cooney's efforts have benefited thousands of working families and have exceeded 20 billion dollars.

Among John Cooney's recent accomplishments has been the largest settlement of any personal injury matter in Illinois history. The mesothelioma Lawyer reported that the $200 million result in asbestos exposure litigation topped the chart for its Million Dollar Settlement Survey and was also the highest settlement amount ever reported by the Cook County Jury Verdict Reporter.

John Cooney and his firm have represented thousands of mesothelioma victims and their families over the last three decades. In addition to mesothelioma victims, Mr. Cooney represents clients in complex personal injury and wrongful death cases which have resulted in numerous record-setting verdicts and settlements. In its annual settlement survey, he has been identified by Chicago Lawyer as one of the top ten attorneys who obtains multi-million dollar results. Many of his cases include transportation and construction accidents, product liability, asbestos litigation, as well as medical malpractice. In addition to the $200 million settlement, Mr. Cooney has secured a record $12.3 million judgment for a 60-year-old pipe coverer fatally exposed to asbestos and a $3.4 million verdict for a 24-year-old student injured at O'Hare International Airport in a commuter bus accident. He obtained a $5 million jury verdict for the family of a suburban couple killed in an automobile accident. He also secured a $5.5 million verdict for a 34-year-old woman who was injured when a cement truck lost control, causing her vehicle to roll over.

Mr. Cooney was the founding chairman of the Mass Torts Litigation Committee of the American Bar Association. He is also an elected manager of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association. He is an elected Governor of the American Association for Justice.

John D. Cooney received his B.A. from Georgetown University in 1976 and his J.D. from Loyola University of Chicago in 1979. He spent the next five years as a prosecutor with the Cook County States Attorneys Office in the Felony Trial Division.

Mr. Conway is a Past President of The Illinois Trial Lawyers Association.  He has been named a Super Lawyer and a Leading Lawyer by vote of his peers. He has been repeatedly named as one of the top 10 personal injury attorneys by his peers in Illinois in the Leading Lawyers Network.

Kevin J. Conway and his firm have tried or settled cases totaling billions of dollars. In one major group of cases Mr. Conway and a team of trial lawyers at Cooney & Conway settled 177 asbestos cases during trial for in excess of 200 million dollars.

Robert J. Cooney

Mr. Cooney received his J.D. from Loyola University School of Law in 1978 and his B.A from Boston College in 1974. He tried numerous criminal cases while serving as a member of the Homicide Task Force in the Cook County Public Defender's office before joining the firm in 1983.

Since that time, he has achieved numerous million-dollar-plus settlements and verdicts in a wide variety of personal injury and wrongful death litigation. He has argued appeals before the Illinois Appellate and Supreme Courts as well as in the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals.

Mr. Cooney is an active member of the Federal Trial Bar and the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, where he has lectured on trial techniques and practice. He is an elected member of the Board of Managers of the Illinois Trial Lawyers’ Association.

William Fahey

William R. Fahey

Mr. Fahey received his J.D. from  John Marshall Law School in 1980, after which he spent over four years as a prosecutor in the office of the Kane County State's Attorney in Geneva, Illinois. He prosecuted many serious felony cases and was named Prosecutor of the Year in 1982. He joined the firm in 1985 as an associate, and became a partner in 1994.

Since joining the firm he has worked actively on the most serious asbestos cases in numerous jurisdictions throughout the state. He has successfully argued cases resulting in verdicts of $35.1 million and $12.3 million on behalf of individuals suffering from mesothelioma, a particularly insidious disease caused by exposure to asbestos. He has settled over eight hundred cases for sums in excess of $1 million, and has negotiated settlements in asbestos cases for Cooney and Conway clients totaling close to $3 billion over the years.

Mr. Fahey has been a member in good standing with the Illinois State Bar since 1980 and has been admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the Northern and Central Districts of Illinois and the Northern District of Indiana. He has argued before the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals in the federal court system as well as in front of the First and Second District Appellate Courts for the State of Illinois. He has been a member of the American Association for Justice and the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association and has always fought to further the rights of victims and consumers. He has been selected by his peers for membership in the Outstanding Lawyers in America and is among the top 5% of lawyers in the State of Illinois.
