Cooney & Conway Laces Up Sneakers for Race Judicata 2017

A team of Cooney & Conway employees were among thousands of runners and walkers who laced up their sneakers for a good cause on Thursday night at the 23rd annual Race Judicata along Grant Park. Proceeds of the event benefit the Chicago Volunteer Legal Services Foundation (CVLS), which strives to make sure the law works for everyone.

“It’s a really fun event,” said Cooney & Conway paralegal and avid runner Kelsey Overberg. “It’s a little casual, a little less competitive than a more traditional race. The start of this race is a little chaotic for me, but it is a lot of fun, it’s for a great cause, and it’s a great scenic route. You start south of Grant Park and you run right along the lake with a great view of the skyline.”

The evening featured a post-race party with live music, and plenty of food and drink, with the money raised going to help promote awareness and support for the missions and objectives of the CVLS. The foundation is a vital community resource which champions the legal rights of Chicago’s poor through advocacy, direct assistance, and other philanthropic activities.

“It was amazing,” said Cooney & Conway paralegal Everett Icao. “It was my first time running Race Judicata and it was a great experience. I encourage everyone in the firm and the legal society to come out and join us for such a great event.”

The firm’s top finishers included:

  • Larry Weisler: 26:24
  • Kelsey Overberg: 26:44
  • Everett Icao: 30:24
  • Jill Conner: 31:24
